Samenvatting

Social research on the arts is a wonderful experience. Speech on the celebration of 10 years “Lifelong Learning in Music”.Social research is usually focused on social problems and difficulties, looking how societal dilemmas could be solved. However, turning our view to the arts and particularly to music, changes these perspectives and – in the end – we realize that the arts and especially music may be the best solutions for social paradoxes; it is at least a dimension which should be taken into account when we plan the future of a human and civil society. Aspects of lifelong learning as they emerge in such research processes are manifold and fundamental. They will also be discussed in this address.
