Assessing and evaluating the Kloetinge rail viaduct's futureSamenvatting
This thesis centres on the Railway Viaduct at Kloetinge (Zeeland), a critical infrastructure element in operation since 1938. As of 2024, with its technical lifespan nearing its end at 86 years, the viaduct's longevity demands attention for its future viability. Situated on Viaduct Road, linking Kloetinge to the A58 highway, its condition and accessibility are pivotal to regional transportation.
The primary inquiry revolves around determining the optimal assessment for the viaduct's future, considering factors like age, maintenance needs, budget constraints, and evolving functionalities. Through comprehensive analysis and a multicriteria evaluation approach, various alternatives are currently being scrutinized to select the most technically viable and best value-for-cost solution. This research aims to find the most technically sound and profitable investment alternative to address the Kloetinge railway viaduct problem. The outcome will be an advisory report sent to both the HZ University of Applied Sciences (school) and the Province of Zeeland (internship bureau).
To achieve this, a Schedule of Requirements comprising all the conditions that the study's findings must fulfil is being created first. Several different variants were drafted and are currently being assessed using a multicriteria analysis (MCA) to rank them and the best of them will be the recommended one.
Following this selection, the chosen variant will undergo detailed refinement into a comprehensive and pragmatic technical design, incorporating structural calculations and drawings. The culmination of this endeavour will result in an advisory report intended for stakeholders, including the HZ University of Applied Sciences and the Province of Zeeland.
This research endeavours to provide actionable insights that will facilitate informed decisionmaking and effective management of the Kloetinge railway viaduct in the near future, ensuring its continued functionality and safety in the coming years.
