Samenvatting

This research investigates the potential of natural jute fibre nets to enhance the flexural strength of geopolymer concrete tiles. Two types of jute fibre grids with surface densities of 120g/mm² and 220g/mm² were tested in four configurations. The objective was to determine the configuration that most effectively improves the flexural strength of a certain geopolymer concrete, potentially meeting the minimum requirements for conventional concrete as specified in Eurocodes.

Experimental results demonstrated that all configurations improved flexural strength compared to the control mixture, with the best performance observed in the configuration using two layers of the 220g/mm² jute net. However, none of the configurations met the minimum flexural strength required for conventional concrete.

Additionally, the study included a brief comparison of geopolymer concrete and other building materials based on environmental impact, mechanical properties, and costs. The circularity of the material was assessed through a detachment test of the fibre nets, showing that jute nets with a higher surface density allowed for easier removal and better circularity compared to freely dispersed fibres.

While the research indicated potential improvements in flexural strength, it also highlighted the need for further optimization and additional studies to fully realize the benefits of jute fibre reinforcement in geopolymer concrete. Recommendations for future research include investigation of the optimal surface density of fibre nets used for reinforcement and utilizing SEM analysis to better understand the bonding mechanisms between the geopolymer concrete layers and the fibre net.
