Project Hanzelijn : Crossing of Bypass - Bridge design
Project Hanzelijn : Crossing of Bypass - Bridge design
Samenvatting
Around city Kampen, there is a new project named Hanzelijn. In this project, some civil works, hydraulic engineering, urban planning and housing should be taken into account. Due to the narrow cross section of the river Ijssel at Kampen, an extreme water discharges channel will be designed as a blue river in the south of Kampen, in order to avoid flooding of the inner city.
As part of the Hanzelijn project, there will also be a road link across the bypass allowing for new motorway traffic, the crossing of the existing motorway N50 and the bypass will be considered and focused on. At this new bypass crossing, we aim to provide the best possible service to all people who use the Crossing over the bypass. We also oversee the operations of the Crossing, and make sure it is kept in the best possible condition. According to the site information and the research results regarding the hydraulic and soil conditions, a new bridge is designed to cross the bypass.
The aim and the requirements for Bridge
Due to the increased population of the citizen living adjacent to the bypass area, a new transportation system should be built. And the crossing of the bypass and the Motorway N50 should be considered as an important one.
Solve the local traffic problem
Reduce traffic jam
Convenient for driving on the bridge
Ease of construction
Enhance local economy development
Suitable vertical and horizontal clearance for navigation
Aim for bypass recreation
By comparing alternatives, considering technical and economic parameters, we try to find the most expedient solution for the local site conditions. Factors influencing the choice of bridge scheme are various. We developed a few alternatives based on local conditions (geologic, hydrologic, shipping, construction, etc.) and applied the creative initiative to the choice of a structural solution.
In this project, the new motorway bridge being built cross the bypass should be a bridge carrying a motorway and forbidden for pedestrians and bicycles. It is a four-lane bridge with the high design speed of 80Km/.
According to the results of comparing alternatives, the prestressed concrete continuous bridge is chosen. The main span is 48 meters long, and two side spans are 36 meters long. The ratio of side span and the main span is 0.75,the total length of the bridge is 120m. The cross section of the girder is single box single cell box with height of 2 meters. The ratio of the girder height and the main span is 1/24.
In the design of superstructure, the final dimensions and type was introduced, followed by structural calculation and material designs. With the help of computer software Midas, a Korean bridge design software, characteristics of each cross section of girder was computed. As the superstructure is continuous prestressed, the losses due to the using of prestressed steel bars was also involved.
The substructure design included the bearing design, piers design, abutment design, and pile foundation design. The type of the each pier is two columns on one footing, which offers the good aesthetics and more reasonable forces distributions. During the design phase, the research of bored piles was done to solve the problems caused by the special soil type in the Netherlands.
