Relationship between gait pattern and shock absorption capacity
Relationship between gait pattern and shock absorption capacity
Samenvatting
The aim of this study is to investigate the strength of the correlation between the foot progression angle (FPA) and the shock absorption (SA) capacity of the leg in healthy individuals during walking. 22 students were recruited. SA and FPA were measured with accelerometry during walking (20 steps). A low positive correlation was found (r = .31) and no significant differences were found between genders (p > .05). The variation in FPA (40.2°) was greater than the variation in SA (9.7%) within the population, suggesting that an increased FPA angle could be an adaptive mechanism in order to keep a consistent SA.
