Coordination routines at different modular levels for the diffusion of explicit and tacit information: the case of the engineering department of a globally-distributed corporation
Coordination routines at different modular levels for the diffusion of explicit and tacit information: the case of the engineering department of a globally-distributed corporation
Samenvatting
This paper examines the need to identify an appropriate coordination mechanism in a case study by an existing multinational corporation. It is grappling with the salient dilemma concerning the need for including remote employees and other stakeholders to support corporate innovation practice, whilst preventing the loss of knowledge due to employee turnover or ‘silent theft’ in the near future. We find that the present business model does not wholly afford the corporation alignment around its dual dependency on knowledge-based and globally-distributed production.
