patterns in urbanitySamenvatting
As part of the international research and design project StreetWorks: Patterns in Urbanity, professor of Design in Urbanism Henk Hartzema, together with students from the Academy, explored and researched the function of the street in six European cities, each with a population of around 1 million residents: Amsterdam, Brussels, Edinburgh, Helsinki, Porto and Zagreb. They cooperated with architecture study programmes and urban planning services at each location. The cooperation was an initiative of the European Association for Architectural Education (EAAE). The participants concentrated on the cohesive function of the city street and on the concept of the layered urban reality of the street by fixing their gaze on traditions and ideological opinions elsewhere in Europe.
In addition to the research and design results of the different student teams, the publication includes contributions from Rogier van den Berg, Joan Busquets, Noël van Dooren, Henk Hartzema, Alex Krieger and Ton Schaap.
