Samenvatting

The purpose of this research is to identify the motivational aspects of prospective pedagogical professionals for choosing a career in a stationary home for people with handicaps.Social work in Germany is constantly facing challenges, i.e. demographic changes, skilled labour shortages and increasing competition among social service providers. These challenges entail consequences for the career paths of entire generations. In order to investigate said consequences, a qualitative study was conducted in which eight experts were interviewed.All interview questions within this thesis were directed towards examining the influence of guiding principles and the framework of working conditions in social institutions. A systematic approach according to the qualitative content analysis by Mayring (2015) was used to gather and analyse the required data.Based on this analysis, a set of recommendations was created which can be used as guidelines for compensating labour shortages in the social sector.
