Samenvatting

Aquaculture production been considered as an approach for economic transformation and poverty alleviation. It focuses on alleviating the significant challenges faced by smallholder farmers, traders, processors and other related actors in the agricultural value chains. In Zimbabwe, aquaculture production was mainly spearheaded by non-governmental organisations (NGOs), as an economic mechanism for generating employment and increasing food security in vulnerable communities. Aquaculture production has fast gained momentum among other rural livelihoods such as agriculture because of its untapped potential to generate employment and improve food security as it provides highly nutritious animal protein and important micronutrients among vulnerable households.
