Hospitality and Hostility towards migrants
Hospitality and Hostility towards migrants
Samenvatting
The hospitality industry depends increasingly on migrant labour. Migrants are wanted but are not necessarily welcomed in the host society. Multicultural workforce is portrayed as necessary means to organisational success within hospitality and EU regulations support equitable work opportunities. At the same time immigrants are disproportionately likely to remain in low-skilled positions with limited opportunities for career development. Given the importance of the migrant workforce for the future of the hospitality industry, it is imperative for organisation to build a responsible practice that prevents marginalisation of the group and at the same time allows organizations to benefit from the full potential of the worker. Therefore this research aims to explore how structural empowerment can help labour migrants' career advancement at Dutch hospitality establishments.
